JAY MARKWICK – A “FLAMENCO PHENOMENON!!

BRITISH DANCER LEADS HIS COMPANY TO FLAMENCO FAME.

EUROPEAN TOUR STARTS OFF IN TORREVIEJA.

Essex born, Jay Markwick, and only nineteen years of age, he is a world class flamenco dancer and is about to embark upon an extremely promising career with his own company. He is unique!!

Jay’s passion for dancing came to light at the tender age of seven when he attended Ballroom and Latin dance classes in Essex; England. After only two weeks, he was picking up trophies in recognition of his natural talent.

Soon after, when he was eight years old, Jay, like many other former residents of the United Kingdom, made the move to the southern Costa Blanca’s sunshine with his parents. He attended local, Spanish state schools and completed his academic studies under the Spanish educational system. Soon after arriving in Spain, Jay continued his passion, this time with Flamenco dancing and attended the Raquel Peña Academy of Dance quickly becoming one of her soloists and being compared as the Essex version of Billy Elliot.

Almost immediately, it became obvious that Jay had a special and unique talent for this typically Spanish style of dance. At 13, Jay Markwick danced at the ‘World Flamenco Festival in Seville and has performed throughout the Iberian Peninsula, picking up accolades and awards on the way. He even appeared on television’s “Britain’s got talent” in the U.K. and won the tv talent competition “Spain’s Next Star”. His talent was further recognized through his being publicly nominated and winning his category in the annual “Pride of Spain” awards.

Jay has continued to develop his talent and has recently worked and trained together with such famous Spanish flamenco stars as Farruquito, Oruco, Farruco, Barullo, Oscar de los Reyes, Pablo Egea and Lola Sornichero. For two years, he danced with the “Ballet Español de Murcia” travelling as far afield as Jordan and China. At only nineteen years of age; he has formed the “COMPAÑIA DE FLAMENCO JM” having personally selected professional dancers from Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Murcia and Cartagena. Jay is Director, Choreographer and "Bailaor Principal"

Now ready to embark, once again upon the international stage, Jay and his dancers are currently making their own first international tour, December 2012 will mark the start of the 'European Tour’ which commences ‘back at home’ in Torrevieja’s TEATRO MUNCIPAL on THURSDAY 13th DECEMBER 2012.The spectacular, flamenco-fusion show “EXPLOSION” commences at 20.30h and tickets, reasonably priced at between 10€, 15€ and 20€ are already selling fast.
