Have just read that Cagneys will have live music (minus Mic,and Speakers etc) From about 3pm til 5pm,
Rickey reckons he may need some help, so it might turn into a sing a long. So as much help as possible will be required, Please bring your best singing voices with you, If you haven't got a best voice bring what you can muster

Just a thought. We are in Spain are we not? Which some people seem very quick sometimes to remind us of. So why are they going out of there way to possible up set a lot of the local Spanish residents and hold this at SIESTA time?

If you know where Cagneys is, you will know that their Spanish neighbours enjoy their music. They sit in their chairs outside their homes to listen to the music. In fact before the bar played at this time they asked the neighbours if it would affect them.

Just to reassure you Cagneys is not doing this gig as a one off. Friday and Sunday have for ages been the two days that Rickey sings in his own bar, he has been doing afternoons on these two days for quite some while and believe me as a regular visitor to this bar I have never seen or heard a complaint of any sort from any of the Spanish residents around. He has spoken to those who should know the rules and they are O.K. with this great idea, Don't forget he is singing with no help from microphone. speakers or other instruments that are normally used.

So cannot fathom why you have this sudden moan about a quiet Guy singing in the afternoon,
Please don't say because this is Spain and the Spainish like to sleep in the afternoon.

Heather and Alan. I expect you are right, but one way or another people are doing there best to get at Ricky and Kate and it looks like at the moment they have mainly succeeded. Which is a shame.
You are most probably correct that a lot of Spanish locals sit outside and enjoy the music. But I bet any money that a fairy few will be of the opposite view and do not wish to be serenaded at that time of the day.
So why not move the entertainment to early evening and away from Siesta time?
By the way Alan my comments were and are not a moan, just that it is obvious that they not only need to be within the law but to tread with caution, after all it is there livelihoods that are at stake. Plus keep in mind this forum mainly reflects the views of the British and not of the Spanish themselves.
Sometimes being squeaky clean is boring, but for a time it seems a must.

Will agree with you that someone is getting at Rickey, two of the possible contenders are known to many people, .On the other point about times, Rickey used to sing early evening on a Friday, but one of the Bars in the same square started a live music evening on a Friday, and at a much louder pitch ,Rickey as usual thought it would be unfair on the surrounding residents if he increased his sound to match the other one, but if he didn't he wouldn't of been heard in his own bar, so he did the only thing he felt he could do and that was to move the Friday time forward. It is things like this that Rickey and Kate are so well liked, Unfortunately being liked by most, brings out a bit of jealousy in others.
I think it would ne nice if as many people turned up today to show that they are appreciated

Hi everyone, Kate and Ricky here still trying to keep our chins up and trying to entertain the locals and holiday makers of La Marina. Yes, it is correct that we have been informed that the Chief of Police contacted the Nacionales about acoustic music and were told that it would be ok to carry on as long as no microphones or amplifiers are used. So as Alan has already said Ricky will be singing and playing his acoustic guitar on our terrace between 3-5pm. Please note our kitchen will be closed between these hours.
In the past we have had live music from 6-9pm on a Sunday and 8-11pm on a Friday. A couple of years ago we altered our hours to 2-5pm mainly at the request of many of our regulars. The reason being that they enjoy an afternoon drink in the sun and also so they can then be home in time for the soaps! This is especially the case in the winter months when it is so much colder.
As Heather has stated, many of our neighbours are actually in the bar when the music is on. Our closest neighbour to the bar was visited by the police years ago and asked if Cagney's music bothered her. Her response was no as she was always in the bar when we had music on! Our Spanish neighbours have recently started barbecuing in the street when our music was on and having their own private street parties which we love to see.
So we are still trying to keep La Marina alive. Why not join us this afternoon?

Sounds perfect! No microphone and no amplifier. Wish more bars would accept that concept.
And a comment to Sunshine. According to Alan everyone who doesn´t agree with him are moaners. So don't be surprised.
