Accordian player in Consum square

Someone from a bar or cafe opposite Consum has complained about the accordian player who frequently sits outside the store. I cannot see the slightest reason for this. He plays quite well, it isn't loud and he doesn't ask for money, if you to give him something he is grateful. At least he is doing something to try and earn a living.
A number of the shops and bars have been approached to sign a petition to have him removed, one lady said she signed but thought it was something from the council. Other shops and bars are asking people to sign another petition to let him stay. That one my wife and I signed.
If you agree with me please go and sign the appropriate petition.

La Marina

The accordian player himself was going around consum square yesterday asking for people to sign a piece of paper so that he could remain there and myself, hubby and daughter all signed it.

As you say, he is actually doing something to earn a living - not begging and i miss him when he is not there.

Hes only trying to earn a few bob, unlike many people - and at least hes not burgling your house

Tell him to get a licence from the council and he will be 'legal'. Busking is legal in the UK.

Thats extremely sad to hear
The chap as always been very friendly towards all persons going in and out the shop
regardless of giving or not giving any monies to him.
You can if not barley hear him if not at all from the other bars/restaurants
I have been visiting now for the past two years so fail to see why now people complaining

Can anyone help him or guide him where to get a licence ?

Makes me wonder if someone wants his spot

If you are lost we are not in the UK we are in Spain what harm is he doing

I would really like to know the person or establishment that has instigated this vendetta.
This man is harming no one and hassling no one, no one has been hustled in to giving anything, it is a personal choice, I sometimes do and I sometimes don't.
Live and let live, life is too short for such pettiness !

Commented Robert in La Marina 2013-10-28 20:32:27 UTC

He is a lovely man who always smiles and waves and even blows me a kiss sometimes. Plus he can actually play a tune on his accordian - unlike a lot of the others that do go round pestering people for money who are trying to enjoy a drink or meal at a restaurant/cafe.

Let him stay - it's all part of Spain and he brightens Consum up as you enter. Why should he even have to get a license - he is doing no harm whatsoever, so whoever is complaining should get a life.

A friend of mine who works on consum square has been told on good authority that the establishment that made the complaint is "La Tabanita",...I too saw the accordion player going round the square seeking signatures for him to be able to stay and offered my signature, the ironic things on this subject are this, the guy was moved off by the police due to a complaint being made,...embarrassingly to them they did so,..we all know that the police have no problem with the accordion player otherwise they would have stopped him previously on one of their many visits through the car park,...but the worst thing of all as far as I can see is that,La Tabanita only open during the day at weekends as far as I am aware,...and open about 6pm in the evenings during the week, the accordion player has normally packed up and gone well before then,..so I beg the question, why complain about some body playing the accordion when it has no direct effect on them? for gods sake he is only trying to make a living,....if they wanted to complain about some body then go and complain about the sodding lucky lucky men,..they come round an interrupt you while you having a meal out or a quite drink,..one came up to me once showing off his junk and when I said no thank you, he then told me to fuck off,...I have never been treated like that by the accordion player,...I think it is fair to say that La Tabanita has lost my custom due to their own bloody stupidity

Please add my 100% support to the support for the accordion player.
He is doing absolutely no harm, is charming and unassuming.
I hope this gets sorted out in his favour!

Just seen him and he confirms that it's la taberinta who made the complaint. Now though he is playing off of the orange tiles so his not on consum property his just in the car park.

Commented Andi in La Marina 2013-10-29 08:45:16 UTC

If Consum were to give permission for him to play, then he would be on " private land " or does that not apply in Spain ?

I am quite aware of the geographical location of La Marina I was just trying to reassure your accordian player he should be safe and just explore more of his safety net so that he may continue entertaining and pleasing us all. Busking WAS frowned upon years ago but now it is legal and the industry is growing and entertainers have the opportunity to entertain and even get discovered. The tube underground system in London has special allocated spots for them to play on and the musicians that entertain at Piccadilly Circus are absolutely rocking!!! Just try thinking outside the box for once and it is surprising what you can find... I meant no disrespect to the residents of La Marina, Spain or in fact to the musician in question; I wish him every success and if all else fails he could be earning £300 a day in London - I know where he can get accommodation!!! LOL. All the best.

Explore more of his safety net? Think outside the box? Your not a business consultant by any chance are you? Once he has his licence, I presume he'll be classed as self employed and therefore subject to Social Security payments in Spain.

Also, just how reliable is the information about the said bar making the complaint? If the Police don't divulge who has made complaints against noise from bars, why would they tell an accordion player?

Commented marko in Quesada 2013-10-29 15:03:39 UTC

Let the poor buggar stay, and dont use the bar/ bars that complained at the same time on two separate days every week.

Quite agree with you Carol, he is not doing anyone any harm, It sounds as though people are trying to turn the place into Little Britain, and I think they have with the stuff you read on this forum, Go back to all your stupid laws and regulations, being "politically correct", "thinking outside the box " and all the bollocks that goes with living in the UK.. For gods sake live and let live if people arent happy with the way people live in Spain then why dont they go back to where they came from instead of constantly trying to make trouble for those who enjoy living here and the traditions. Have people in their boring little lives got nothing else to moan about, get a life !! or do one and go back .. .

A lovely man always pleasant , I saw tabernita going round with the petition , if anyone should be kicked out of la Marina it would be the accordion players in the square behind ramones, they come round for money all the time and if you don't give the one with the tambourine says he will slit your throat . Lol charming

Commented winterbottomandsophie in La Marina 2013-10-29 18:30:55 UTC

Agree completely - the players in the grey square are with attitude, vile and deserve nothing! They appear everywhere and are just a complete noise in your ear. Sure they only survive with the donations of tourists - hope not from residents please.
No problem with the player outside consum he always has a pleasant attitude. Can't wait 'till Christmas for a smile, Jingle Bells always sounds like My Old Mans a Dustman to me!

Commented Lol in La Marina 2013-10-29 19:58:34 UTC

I have to say when you listen to it every day it is annoying, that said, he came around and asked us to sign his petition we couldn't say no, he had his wife who was in tears and children with him. The down side is we cant have live music, but the better side is what the hell, hes feeding his family and not really harming anyone. its part of Spain, let him get on with it hes not harming anyone

Commented [email protected] in La Marina 2013-10-30 18:35:40 UTC

Best thing to do is counter claim the complaint
by putting together the partition but also have the local business supporting it too
especially the Consum as its there land that the said offender is on !
In the end it should die of death as the Police do not have the resources to see it through

Commented FOX160 in La Marina 2013-10-30 19:01:38 UTC

Well said Jescapes x

Commented Souxie in La Marina 2013-10-30 19:03:29 UTC

Catherine I don't think you have been here long, Busking is illegal and one cannot get a licence. Although I agree he is doing no harm and the music is pleasing.
