Orihuela Medieval Market

On the weekend of Friday 3rd to Sunday the 5th, Orhuela are puting on a Medieval Market. This is one of the biggest Medieval Markets on the Costa Blanca and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
We have come up with the idea of puting on a bus or buses, to take and bring back people who would like to visit this Market. It is proposed that a bus(es) will be laid on for the Saturday. Leaving the Urbanisation approximately 4pm and leaving the centre of Orihuela around 9pm. The cost will be subsidised and persons wishing to avail themselves of this facility, would be required to pay €3 per head. As spaces are limited, persons should book their seat through the Tourist Office, The Lesser Town Hall or the Offices of the Concejalia de Urbanizaciones in Calle Madrid.

Personally I would rather see any subsidy used to support the Urb. rather than promoting trade in Orhuela. I would have thought the priority would be getting people onto the Urb. to spend their money rather than sending them elsewhere to do it? Perhaps if this subsidy is from the Town Hall it could instead be returned to the Suma payers and those of us who support the Urb. could choose to spend it here instead?

Think I tend to agree with you KT.A lot needs doing to La Marina,to make it a friendly lively place to be,One of the main ones is to keep the Bars open instead of trying to close them or make them souless, and try to find ways of opening up the many retail units that are vacant and most have been since the day they were built,At the moment this Urb. seems like a ghost town and who in their right mind would want to visit it.

This offer is for those who wish to experience part of Spanish Culture and enjoy the opportunity to integrate with Spanish society.

Jeff your response on this issue is flipant and quite unacceptable for an elected member. Your priority should first and foremost be to promote La Marina, encouraging people to live and spend their money on the urbanisation rather than encourage people to spend their money in another local econmoy.

Is this sort of expenditure at the council tax payers expense a priority for this council? surely not!! In the context of the dire finanical siuation we are advised the current council finds itself in be it inheriteted or not i would have thought that the biggest priority of the day would to have been to reduce the deficit position with evey last avilable penny.

Day trips of this nature, cultrual or not cannot be considered a priority and should not be funded by the public purse.

Jeff a great idea but i think sadly that most people on the Urb want there`little Britain' and
sadly don't want to integrate within the country of Spain they chosen to live in.
Jeff is this going to be an on going thing has I live in London But will be spending a lot of time here for breaks.

We are away on this date - what a pity, we would have definitely been a part of this. Great idea!

Just wondering how the trip to Orihuela went? Only 4 businesses open here in the Consum Square (Urb. La Marina) tonight - nobody around. Perhaps Orihuela is so good everyone integrated there and didn't come back? Anyway, had a great meal tonight at Gran China (Urb. La Marina, Consum Square).

Saludos de La Marina.

P.S. Jeff, I think some of your previous comments on this posting seem to have vanished? Please could you re-post - they were very userful in their explanation of the Council's priorites for expenditure.

KT.....
I personally think you are missing the point. What the hell has it got to do with the council about places not being open. It's the people who moved here, there people who use to pack bars out pack restaurants out when there were good times. People have decided to go back to there own country of origin now. So that leaves many many bars and restaurants feeling the pinch. Us immigrants, expats what ever you want to call it built the area up when the euro was doing fantastic and when the peseta was cheap. Now when the tough times arrive we abandon the urb and people return back home. So that has nothing to do with te council AT ALL. As for the trip the other night apart from it being freezing I hear a lot of people went. I have heard someone say la marina is like a mini benidorm. There's nothing but bars and resturants on this urb so there is some truth to that. ( I only wish it was a mini benidorm)

I for one really enjoyed the Medieval Market on Saturday, and the atmosphere on the coaches were great everyone enjoyed themselves, so well done to the council for organising this trip, YES it was cold but we brits do cold very well. Stop having a go at Jeff and let the bloke get on with his job. Its winter here and not many people come out in the winter, it always has been like that. Oh by the way when we came back we did go out for a meal and a drink, so we had best of both worlds.

My point is that I believe the Council's priority sould be promoting our area rather than spending tax payer's money on taking people away from our area to an event in Orihuela. We ae told the Council is hard up but they found funds to support an event in Orihuela?

I think you may be right about a comment by jeff,on this subject being deleted. If I am not wrong it had something to do with jeff throwing his dummy out of his pram, and in reply to a comment about the money spent on coaches it should come off the SUMA,I think his reply was send me a self addressed envelope and i will send you your 2cents,(mayunot be word perfect)if i am wrong would someone please correct me.I think the comment was printed just before Genie said hes remark was flippant and quite unacceptable.

I seem to recall the same, I think there was also a lecture about how the trip would help to integrate us all into Spanish culture? A bit rich really as the next idea is apparently a celebration of the diamond jubilee of the British Queen!
