Rojos Comsum square

Ok well just got shut down in the afternoon on a Saturday, we had live music, everyone enjoying it inc ajoining bars, One complaint and the police come, 2 till 4 i dont think is bad. Do they want to kill everything in La Marina?
Think a few sad people need to get a life, chill out and enjoy, your in the sun and in Spain. Its hard work making a business pay here and the odd few make it impossible. Thanks to the person who complained, but why dont you just chill with a glass of wine and enjoy, Thankyou to all the bars around us who have given us their support

What is it with these sados ? something has got to be done or the whole area will soon be finished. I can remember when the whole area was one big happy place and buzzing soon too be zzzzing then dying, didn't the sados do there home work 1st and find that this would not be the area for them rather than try to change what the area is

Sorry for bars and restaurant owners, but as sure as eggs is eggs,Easter is here soon so you can bet the same half dozen morons who complain every year just as the busy period starts, will do so again. The Council dont give a toss,Valencia care even less. The Presidents assoc.collected over 1400 signatures to get the rules changed and the onus put on the Local Council rather than the Regional Government, with a suggested time for live music to stop.Unfortunately we all know that valencia will not open the envelope for 5 years,By then la Marina Urb will be a ghost town ,the only good thing is that most of the Councillors will be redundant and will have to find proper jobs

Commented Alan in La Marina 2013-03-09 19:23:39 UTC

as a president on the urb, we as an association are doing our best to obtain a licence for live entertainment, as you pointed out we have got 1400 names of support. We have been assured that the mayor carlos will present the petition to the delegation in alicante this coming week, so alan it shouldnt take five years.
please try and be supportive.

Id like to know why this happens, im clearing up after 14 hour day, music is pumping from other bars at 11.30 but not a police car in site, we have music for two hours and no where near as loud as the Kareoke rubbish in Consum square tonight and we get closed. we had a very good singer singing Nat king cole and easy music and not that loud. Think people need to say enough, refuse to pay fines. one rule for one, one rule for another, The urb will be dead if they carry on, feek sorry for the police but they must use common sence

Commented [email protected] in La Marina 2013-03-09 22:28:51 UTC

Just been outside, watched the police drive past a bar making ten times more noise than we made today, we had chilled out music and its now gone midnight and still the noise. im going to want some answers on Monday moring thats for sure. Totaly unfair and out of order.

Commented [email protected] in La Marina 2013-03-09 23:08:21 UTC

Following my recent meeting, I will find out what is happening. One of the points I raised with the Mayor was that, if a complaint comes in about noise etc and the police attend, only to find that the noise is acceptable (hopefully the police will use common sense), I would like to see the complainant charged with wasting police time. We must not let the minority win. I will be pushing next week for answers as to the outcome of our petition, and I will let you all know.

these are really sad times,....I was in Rojo's and the music volume was perfectly ok,...you could just about hear it outside the open front door,..where are these silly complaints coming from? you cannot do right for doing wrong over here!! it really does make me wonder why i bothered moving here in the fist place,...I left the UK and a brilliant job to come over here and set up my own little, successful business, but the way the authorities operate just beggers belief,..I am in my mid 30's and want to go out and enjoy music being played/sang in bars,..not every night, but to be able to have the option would be good,..I think the council and the police should start getting a backbone and not make the publicans over here run the gauntlet of trying to operate a business,....the source of all these complaints should be public knoledge,...then maybe they will think twice before picking up the phone and making bloody down right pathetic claims of noise problems,...I once loved spain and specially La Marina,..but it is going right down the pan,..do these idiots not realise that the businesses pay their tax, which in turn goes into the system and helps the local economy (or should i say,..goes down to san fulgencio so they can have nicely paved streets and nice tarmaced roads, while the residents of Oasis have to drive through something similar to a war zone just to do their shopping)? Who ever made up these stupid rules/laws must have been dropped on their head at birth or starved of oxygen.,,,,,Oh yeah!! and i'm sure the spanish run bars never have any complaints made against them, or if they do,...do the authorities go and pay them a visit and shut the music down?,...I will let you lot figure out the answer to that. We are treated like second class citizens,...but it is ok for us to support their failing economy,...as long as you don't play music and don't want to enjoy yourself of course!!

Commented dragardian in Alicante 2013-03-10 05:43:12 UTC

I quite agree with Dragardian that this is getting silly!
I am reliably informed by one of the Communiity Presidents who was present at a recent meeting with the Mayor and Jeff our European Councillor where he was shown the entire correspondence received by the town hall from the protesters on the subject of noisy bars and restaurants.
I am informed that the total correspondence on this matter amounted to four letters all with the names and addresses of the protesters blanked out.
FOUR LETTERS and the entire Urb. is in melt down!
Has this matter not got really out of control?

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2013-03-10 07:05:43 UTC

Another thought i had was,....would it be possible through legal routes for the bars that are being ordered to turn their music off to be able to denunciate (if that is the correct spelling) the complainee's due to loss of income? again maybe that would make them think twice before picking up the phone,...they must just sit there like some kind of victor meldrew thinking who's s**t can i grip today! action really needs to be taken by the correct path by the authorities who claim extorsionate wages for serving the public of this once great area,..common it can't be that hard,...maybe I should run for council !!! in the greater scheme of things it couldn't be any worse, eh "friendlyviking" ;0)

id just like to thank all the people (inc from other bars) who fully supported us yesterday. It would be fair to say we where both very upset and felt we let customers down trying to do our best. Anyone at Rojos yesterday knows that Keven (Mr Bojangles) is a great singer and everyone was enjoying the afternoon, 15 minutes and he would have been finished. A big thank you to all the people who came and once again im sorry it was cut short. Looks like thats the end of our music afternoons. Frustrates me i see music in other places to be honest and nothing is done. Id never denounce any other business for Trying to make a living, we both know how hard it is.

Commented [email protected] in La Marina 2013-03-10 08:17:16 UTC

Tommy
I have always backed the Bar and Restaurant owners on this particular problem,I stated last year that complainents should be held accountable for wasting police time, when their complaint of noise is not upheld. But our Local Councillor has stated before that if the police receive a complaint of noise coming from a bar they will investigate and if it is not too noisy, will go to the complainent and ask them to withdraw the complaint,if they refuse, the police will go back to the bar and order the music to be turned down or off.If this is fact then the bar owners and yourself and the vast majority of people on the Urb do not have a chance in hell,of getting anything changed, and La Marina urb will in a few years become a ghost town.
I also remember last year the Council telling us that they had been summonsed to Valencia, where they were told in no uncertain terms that Valencia would use the national police to shut down bars if the complaints to them were not curtailed. These points prove that unless we have the backing of someone in authority bars will continue to be harassed by the police and why do the police harass them, the answer is simple its because they can.Until this Council tell us the truth of their game plan and stop being two faced, the Bar and restaurant owners are on a loser.Which in turn means every single person who has property on La Marina Urb is on a loser,as the property they invested in will not be worth the land it is standing on,we have got to stop this yearly harassment from continuing and the place to start is for the Council to take control of its police and tell them, that a certain amount of noise happens everywhere at all times, and to let these stupid morons who complain for the hell of it know that they could be held accountable for wasting police time if these complaints are not upheld.Unfortunately I do not see this Council doing anything that may rock their boat.

Commented Alan in La Marina 2013-03-10 08:55:35 UTC

^^^ fair play alan!! tell it like it is!! why would the council want to rock the boat and spoil the gravy train they are riding,...Although you would think they would be a bit more pro-active, just to show that they can justify the wages they are getting paid,....after all they are supposed to be acting in the interest of their general public and not the minority,...I wonder if they have ever thought,..If they could sort this mess out, it may in turn give them the publicity they require when wanting to be re-elected and also incur us having a little bit more faith in them?,...only a bit mind you!

Commented dragardian in Alicante 2013-03-10 09:46:27 UTC

Alan,
Do we have a council? Apart from Jeff pontificating around the place I have never seen or heard from any other elected councillor. The Mayor for instance, or as he is better known The Invisable Man, is a total mystery to us all, have you ever met him. In fairness I gather we have a good Spanish Councillor who reacts to the worries of we Urbanites, I believe he is called Paulo Hierro or something very near to that name.
At €3000 to €3500 a month for his sinecure (High salary for doing nothing or even less) it is highly unlikely that Jeff will be rocking boats, is it. When we look back and remember the land of milk and honey he promised us before the election compared to the utter chaos that he has contributed to it makes one wonder, does it not?

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2013-03-10 10:20:24 UTC

The answer to why blame the Council, isnt rocket science,Only part of the blame for this fiasco is down to them, and the answer is simple regardless of what happens to La Marina Urb.They will still be overpaid for the next couple of years, and seeing as over a dozen of the Councillors dont live on the Urb.what happens to it wont bother them one iota.Secondly to make a stand on behalf of the Bars may mean upsetting the powers that valencia hold over us all,so obviously they have more to fear from valencia than they have from the people who gave them their jobs.
Mind you the mention of the next elections,I dare say we will get the normal cars driving round the area bleating about how good the particular parties are.over loudspeakers attached to the top of cars, has given me an idea to complain to the police everytime i hear one these vehicles use outside speakers and microphones both of which bars are not allowed to use, hopefully the police would rush to stop these vehicles doing free advertising, but I guess in retrospect they would only stop the opposition parties vehicles from using this system but would forget the complaints about the party in power vehicles.(just a thought)

Our house is "up wind" of your bar and we did not hear any music on Saturday afternoon and we have heard music from other bars in the area, so if Kevin had been singing exceptionally loud we would have heard him. Not that we would have complained. I hope this saga is not going to start all over again this summer. Pity some people live such sad lives that they have to keep complaining and spoil things for the rest of us.

Jetscapes if you have found a way to have music without problems, then good luck to you. But I have to say, and not everyone may agree with me, to deliberately play music really loud is surely not the way to go. Don't forget you also have good neighbours in the vicinity who support you, so why go out of your way to upset them just for one or perhaps two troublemakers. I for one would not go into a bar where the music was unreasonably loud as I would not enjoy it. I can understand how you feel but surely to be able to play music without recriminations should be enough.

The ODD few that are causing all the problems for the bars are people like Marie, these are the comments she put on here about a month ago, regarding the Fiesta travesty in San Fulegncio,
I have blotted some letters, sorry to dig this up again but it's relevant to this problem.

''same old shit on here if you dont agree with the few sad bastards..i will now be kicked off this site but i dont give a #### GO #### YOURSELFS you all need a ####### life and #### OFF out of spain.......and even if you are residant you are still a GUEST you thick bitch this is not your country of origin
then go and #### yourselfs some more''
she then made accusations against one of the best bars around that she/he? was ignored and short changed, then deleted her/his comments because it was proved she had never actually visited this bar.
The ODD few just don't like the Brits,The Spanish authorities/police must have a clue what's going on with the ODD few playing games. The police can here the noise levels are reasonable when on patrol.
The less residents, tourists, holiday makers, affects all the Spanish businesses, tradesmen/woman and their families,as well as everyone else,
In my opinion someone has friends in high places, that's why some bars don't get a problem, eventually the ODD few will have their details leaked, that's normally what happens, just a matter of time.

Thanks for all you coments, There is a legal way of having music and we will be doing it, the level of noise was not loud on saturday and would never have upset anyone near us, the noise level from other bars at past midnight was far greater (and good luck to them if they can get away with it) But at Rojos we would never have it loud enough or late enough to anoy people close, We simply want to offer customers some entertainment, in the daytime while having some food and a beer in the sun. we will have music again and in a legal way. Please come and enjoy and if we ever anoy you, come to the bar and talk to us and we will sort it out.

Commented [email protected] in La Marina 2013-03-13 03:05:39 UTC

Hey Jez,...I would like to think that if any one had a problem with the noise they would come to see you,..but in reality they possibly hide behind the curtains with their binoculars strapped round their necks with the windows open waiting for the wind to blow in the right direction of their house on the off chance they maybe able to hear a mouse fart,..then up come the binoculars and the offender is spotted,...then they reach for the phone and press the speed dial button direct to the police,...and we start the whole process again,...it's like groundhog day,..lol,...i'm thinking the legal way about having music is a top idea and the man who suggested it deserves a pat on the back (only this time mind you),..I was thinking if it could be arranged once a month,..that would be a good start,..just to break the kill-joys in easily,..oh yeah,..just thought i would point out that i have been told the rock concert has been approved again for this year (not sure if this is true),..so this may take the focus off hard working bars and give the moaners something to really moan about,..but myself, will just be enjoying the music...getting my groove on..lol

Commented dragardian in Alicante 2013-03-13 05:34:38 UTC

Yes the rock concert is on this year and for TWO days, But its just Two days so id tell people to enjoy and put up with it, you may not like it but many young people do. Bars will do well in the area and thats what we need. As most people know i havnt lived here that long but Shez has been here over ten years and can remember when the place was buzzing and alive, lets hope we can get that going again and everyone can have a good time. As i said, i will always listen to everyones concerns and if we ever upset people with Music we will turn it down (but the music we want i dont think will) We would like a Jazz afternoon and thats a thought. We do our best with the bar to provide something for everyone. Bouncy castle on the way in the summer for the kids (prob be in trouble for that).

might be worth having a live camera recording everytime you have music, stand in front of the camera with a decibel meter showing the noise level when the music starts, the council or police should know what the max decibel level should be, record everything including the police coming in,show the police the decibel level, put it on a DVD and send to the local council/police/Valencia.

all it really needs is for the mayor and the local authorities to have a modicum of common sence,...it's not rocket science or nuclear phsysics is it,..or maybe it is?? the mayor controls the local police,..why can't he just tell the local police to use a little bit of grey matter on the topic of "MUSIC OFFENCE",..by all means get them to check out the establishment,..but if it is deemed by them to be an acceptable level,..they could just get back on their merry way pulling over drivers who don't indicate when turning (although i rarley see any spanish idicate when turning,..maybe for them it is an optional extra on the car when they buy one?) and fill the coffers that way? failing that,...I have managed to track down stephen hawking's e-mail address and we could ask him for his opinion,...but in the greater scheme of things,... sorting out how the universe was created,..polarity of black holes and molecular quantum physics,..I think he has already got his diary filled for the rest of this month,..but you never know!!
